This page contains information that is specific to PAs in rotational posts only. For general PA information please see our Physician Associate tab. The rotational PA post provides a good generalist background, ensures exposure to a range of clinical skills, as well as provides a solid foundation upon which to decide where you might want to work permanently upon completion of the two years.

Rotational PAs are currently line managed by Medical Education Manager, Kerry Dungay, so that your support is centralised whilst you are rotating through different teams. Please see below specific information about how this relationship will work around certain areas.

Annual Leave

  • You are entitled to 262.5 hours annual leave per calendar year which is inclusive of 60 hours of bank holiday.

  • You will need to approach your departments rota coordinator in the first instance with any annual leave requests. If they approve your request then you should then request this through Healthroster. Our team will then approve this on Healthroster with the understanding that you have already had appropriate approval from your department.

  • Please ensure you follow the same process for Bank Holidays which you will also need to request on Healthroster.

Sickness

  • If you are unwell and cannot attend work, please call the central absence line in the first instance on 01752 430000. They will record your absence on Healthroster as well as advise on COVID testing if required.

  • You must then contact us and your department to make us aware of your sickness absence.

  • On your return to work, please contact us so we can arrange a mandatory return to work meeting. This meeting is required by Trust policy and is a supportive measure to ensure that you can access all the help available to you, should you require it, following time off work.

Appraisals

  • You will receive an appraisal annually. This will involve a meeting with the PA Director, Dr Jamie Read, and Medical Education Manager, Kerry Dungay. This meeting is a supportive opportunity to discuss your personal development and future aspirations as well as any training you might be interested in undertaking going forward. We will contact you in advance of your appraisal with more information.

Teaching

  • As a rotational PA, you have protected teaching time on the last Wednesday of every month between 13:00 and 16:00. This is currently taking place via MS Teams and you will receive a link to the virtual teaching from Dr Jamie Read ahead of each session. As this is protected time, your department should be releasing you and you are expected to attend unless you are on a planned rest day, booked leave or are off work with sickness.
